Golf Into The Skies & Snow Capped Peaks Of The Canadian Rockies
To start your adventure in the Canadian Rockies the best option for golfers is to arrive into Calgary International Airport….from there you will then head out to Kananaskis. Here you will find two golf courses ranked among 100 best golf courses in Canada….Mount Kidd and Mount Lorette. Both present their own unique challenge and provide a true mountain golf experience. There is a lodge just down the road from these courses that is a gentle introduction to the area; whether you play one or both, surely it will give you a feel for what you are about to experience.
Whether staying in Kananaskis or 30 minutes west to Canmore, your next destination should be Stewart Creek. Few golf courses in North America enjoy the spectacular combination of setting, extraordinary vistas, and fantastic golf. Designed by renowned golf course architect Gary Browning, the course provides substantial elevation changes but still delivers a solid, unpretentious mountain track. And don’t forget as you are playing well above sea level you will see an additional 10+ yards off the tee as you stripe it down the fairway.
Next up is a 3-4 hour driver that is well worth it as you head to the Fairmont at Jasper Park Lodge and Golf Club. The drive to and from Jasper is the most beautiful road in Canada to travel. En route if your timing is right, you will encounter a few wildlife sightings, picturesque glaciers, and Athabasca waterfall, definitely worth a 15 minute stop.
Once you get to the Fairmont at Jasper Park, you will see the main lodge with deluxe to exclusive cabin accommodation. Depending on where you would like to stay on property you will be afforded a view of the lake and/or the golf course and you won’t be disappointed. The golf course itself is a Stanley Thompson design, Canada’s master golf architect. This course winds its way through the mountains and wildlife that surrounds the area, and the holes are challenging for the best of golfers but based on tee placement achievable for the average golfer.
From Jasper Park, the beautiful Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel awaits. It is a very different feel from Jasper. The Banff Hotel makes you feel like royalty. The rooms are exquisite, the property is bounding with activities to do, and the golf, another Stanley Thompson design, is memorable. This course is arranged a bit wider than its counterpart, the greens fast and readable. It is hard not to stop and take a moment and internalize the awesomeness of playing here.
